Day 2: Drive to Akagera National Park

Early in the morning, after a hearty breakfast, you will depart Kigali and head east to Akagera National Park, Rwanda’s premier savannah park. This approximately 2.5-hour drive takes you through the scenic Rwandan countryside, offering stunning views of rolling hills and rural villages.

Akagera National Park is a vast expanse of protected land that borders Tanzania. It’s home to a wide array of wildlife, including the famous “Big Five” (elephants, lions, leopards, buffalos, and rhinos). Akagera is the only park in Rwanda where you can experience classic savannah game viewing, but it also features wetlands, lakes, and rolling highlands, providing habitats for numerous species of birds and mammals.

This moving memorial site is a tribute to the victims of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide and offers a deeply educational experience about Rwanda’s history.
