Day 2: Transfer to Kasese Airfield and Arrival at Kibale National Park
Fly to Kasese and Journey to Kibale National Park
After breakfast, you will transfer to Entebbe Airport for a short domestic flight with Aerolink Uganda to Kasese Airfield. Upon landing, your guide will meet you and drive you to Chimpundu Lodge, a luxurious eco-lodge nestled in the heart of Kibale National Park.
Exploring Kibale National Park
Kibale National Park, also known as the “primate capital of the world,” is home to the highest density of primates in Africa. The park spans over 795 square kilometers of lush tropical rainforest, interspersed with patches of grassland and swamp. Kibale is most famous for its chimpanzees, but it is also home to 12 other primate species, including red colobus monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, and grey-cheeked mangabeys. The park also boasts rich birdlife, with over 375 species recorded, making it a haven for birdwatchers.

Your third day will start with an exciting chimpanzee tracking adventure in Kibale National Park. After an early breakfast, you will join a team of experienced park rangers who will guide you into the forest in search of these remarkable creatures.
The Chimpanzees of Kibale National Park
Kibale National Park is home to an estimated 1,500 chimpanzees, the closest living relatives to humans, sharing approximately 98.7% of our DNA. Chimpanzees are incredibly social animals, living in large communities that can range from 20 to over 150 individuals. As you trek through the forest, you will observe the chimpanzees communicating with each other through vocalizations, grooming, and playing. Their loud, distinctive calls, known as “pant hoots,” can be heard echoing through the forest, adding to the thrill of the experience.
Watching them swing from tree to tree, forage for food, and interact with their family members provides an intimate glimpse into their world. The tracking experience typically lasts between 2 to 4 hours, depending on the location of the chimpanzees.

Day 4: Crater Lake Walk and Relaxation

On Day 4, after breakfast, you will head out for a scenic Crater Lake walk around the volcanic craters near Kibale National Park. This “Top of the World” walk offers panoramic views of the crater lakes, tea plantations, and the Rwenzori Mountains in the distance. It’s a peaceful hike that allows you to take in the beauty of the landscape and reflect on the incredible wildlife encounters of the past days.

After the walk, return to Chimpundu Lodge for a restful afternoon. You can choose to relax at the lodge, take a swim, or enjoy a refreshing drink while soaking in the stunning views.

Day 5: Fly to Kisoro and Transfer to Bwindi National Park
Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After an early breakfast, you will drive back to Kasese Airfield for your flight to Kisoro Airstrip. Upon arrival, your guide will transfer you to Gorilla Heights Lodge, located near the Rushaga sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Discovering Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most biologically diverse areas in the world. Spanning over 321 square kilometers of dense tropical rainforest, Bwindi is home to roughly 400 mountain gorillas, almost half of the world’s population. The forest’s rich biodiversity includes over 120 mammal species, 350 bird species, and countless plant and insect species.
The park is named for its thick, almost impenetrable vegetation, and trekking through its misty, hilly terrain is a challenging but rewarding experience. Bwindi’s cool, high-altitude climate, combined with its lush greenery, makes it a unique environment for both flora and fauna.
The Mountain Gorillas of Bwindi
Mountain gorillas are one of the world’s most endangered species, with fewer than 1,000 individuals remaining in the wild. These gentle giants live in family groups led by a dominant silverback, who is responsible for the protection and leadership of the group.
Mountain gorillas are herbivores, feeding on leaves, shoots, and wild fruits. Despite their large size and strength, they are peaceful animals, spending most of their time foraging and resting. Watching a gorilla family in their natural habitat is an awe-inspiring experience. You’ll be able to observe their close-knit family bonds, the playful antics of the young, and the silverback’s watchful authority.

Day 6: Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi
The Ultimate Gorilla Tracking Experience
Day 6 is the highlight of your safari – gorilla tracking in Bwindi. After an early breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters for a briefing by the park rangers. You’ll then set off on foot through the forest, accompanied by your experienced guide, in search of one of the gorilla families that reside in the Rushaga sector.

Gorilla tracking can take anywhere from 1 to 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family. As you trek through the dense forest, you’ll be surrounded by the sounds of chirping birds, rustling leaves, and the occasional call of other primates. When you finally find the gorilla family, you will spend an unforgettable hour observing them up close.
In the afternoon, you have the option to participate in a community walk, where you can visit local Batwa communities and learn about their traditional way of life.

Day 7: Flight from Kisoro to Entebbe and Departure

After breakfast, your guide will transfer you to Kisoro Airstrip for your early morning flight back to Entebbe International Airport. Upon arrival, you’ll have time to relax or explore Entebbe before connecting to your international flight back home.
